Open Space
Our open space is one of the reasons so many of us choose to live here. OSMP manages tens of thousands of acres of land and 155 miles of trails. There is an approximately $30 million maintenance backlog on OSMP trails alone. As a Council, we need to address this backlog and make sure what happened with our $400 million in deferred maintenance of city buildings does not happen to our beloved open space.
We should not allow funds dedicated to open space to be redirected to other uses to the point that OSMP cannot afford to properly maintain our trails.
We should also minimize the addition of new trails until we ensure our existing trails are in good condition and have the resources necessary to keep them that way.
